Figure 8 Rank Grid

We search Google Maps from dozens of real points across a business's service area, and draw where they actually come up.

Green means they are in the top three from that spot. Red means a person standing there does not see them at all. Click any business below to open the real heat map — it is live, not a picture. Press Space on it and the map switches to whoever is beating them, on the same points, from the same day.

How it is made

  1. Paste their Google listing link. It reads the business, checks the pin is somewhere a customer could stand, and locks on to their exact Google listing so it cannot pick up a business with a similar name.
  2. It measures the area first. How far can a searcher standing there actually see? In a city that is a few kilometres; in the country it is much further. Getting this wrong invents empty space, so it is measured, not assumed.
  3. It runs the real search from every point. 81 to 225 separate Google Maps searches, each one from that exact coordinate.
  4. Every point must answer. A grid with a gap in it is never shown.
  5. The table underneath is every business found anywhere on the grid — average rank, top-3 coverage, category, star rating, review count, and a link to their real Google listing so nothing on screen has to be taken on trust.
Every number here is measured, not modelled. Open any heat map and press D for the raw data: every coordinate, every rank, the source named, and the exact time the searches ran. Nobody makes up 169 rows of latitude.
